Our Scarves

All our scarves are slowly woven in a hand loom and hand dyed with 100% vegan materials using traditional Nepali techniques by our Nepali sisters. Through Bahini our sisters are employed by our carefully selected Fair Trade certified partners. With good work conditions and a fair pay, these survivors have become independent and are living a life with dignity and freedom. It is just as important to us that our scarves are made from sustainable materials and dyes to ensure that both you, our workers, and Mother Earth loves them just as much as we do. Vegan fibres

To ensure that all our materials and fibres are sourced in a cruelty free way, we have chosen to solely use vegan fibres in all our products.

Bamboo linen

Bamboo plantations require very little maintenance and can be grown without pesticides or chemicals thanks to its own antibacterial agent called bamboo-kun. Aso it is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet and its little need of water and energy it is an extremely renewable resource that can survive through both drought as well as flooding.

Our bamboo yarn is made by a mechanical-bacterial process similar to retting flax into linen. The woody part of the bamboo is crushed mechanically before a natural enzyme retting and washing process is used to break down the walls and extract the bamboo fibre. The resulting yarn has a silky touch and is very durable. The natural bamboo linen used for our scarves is four times more absorbent than cotton fabric. You can enjoy wearing your scarf, no matter the weather. Making it versatile and a great travel/work/leisure companion - all year around. 

 

Dyes

We only use eco-friendly colours for our products that are safe for all workers and we ban any toxic compounds such as chlorine bleach, carcinogens and softeners. All scarves are dyed in a closed water loop system to ensure nothing leaks out into nature. Once reduced, the dye residues are used as soil fertilisers. 

 

Natural Dyes

For our Nature and Shibori collections we have dyed the scarves using locally sourced seasonal plants and herbs. Depending on the season, some shades aren't always available and only a few scarves can go into each batch.

 

Azo-Free Dyes

For our Stockholm collection we have dyed the scarves with eco-friendly azo-free dyes, which requires less dye and also less water usage.

Packaging

We do our best to leave as little of a footprint on the planet as possible. However, as our scarves are shipped to you, each scarf is packed and shipped in plastic free, 100% recycled FSC-certified kraft paper boxes printed with eco-friendly white ink. All the choices we make, from yarn to hang-tag, are based on kindness towards nature.

 

Improvements

We are always striving to stay on top of things and find new ways to improve our brand and production methods to be the most ethical it can be. As technology, scientific findings and new innovations constantly emerge it can sometimes be hard to catch up.
