1. Product Information
  • Size: 70x200 cm
  • Material: 100% natural bamboo linen
  • Weave: Diamond Jacquard
  • Dye: Natural - Seasonal plants and herbs

This scarf is woven in a handloom by the loving hands of our sisters in Nepal. To create this earthy and natural shade, the scarves have been dyed with seasonal plants, vegetables and herbs where only a few scarves can go into each coloring batch. Some color variations can occur due to the nature of the natural dyeing process and should not be seen as a defect.

Each scarf comes with a magnetic pin that can be used to hold the scarf in place or as a pin on any other garment.

2. Care instructions

To ensure your naturally dyed Bahini scarf will be your favuorite piece forever - please follow our recommended care instructions:

  • Hand wash in cold water with similar colors
  • Hang dry, away from direct sunlight
  • Be careful around sharp items as it may pull the yarn
  • Just as a pair of new jeans, darker shades of natural dye may rub off - be careful when used together with light colored clothes
3. The story behind this scarf

We collaborate with three Fair Trade certified producers in Nepal who handcraft our scarves and face masks. They all share our mission on empowering marginalised women with independence and freedom.

Manushi
Manushi is a WFTO-recognised NGO specializing in environmentally-friendly textile manufacturing. They employ around 35 full-time salaried producers and 10 full-time employees, and works with about 1,500 artisans all over Nepal. Their special mission is on empowering poor, disadvantaged and marginalized women to become independent while promoting indiginous handicraft and skills. They have specialised themselves in natural dyes and japanese shibori techniques, and have taken our natural bamboo scarves to the next level with the help of seasonal plants and herbs used in their dyes.

Folk Nepal
The producer of our azo-free dyed bamboo scarves is a WFTO-guaranteed member NGO fighting to eradicate social inequalities by supporting and promoting Nepalese handicrafts. Today, they work with 40 producer groups across Nepal and are involved in several projects with a strong focus on the education sector.

WEAN
(Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal) is a pioneering cooperative in Nepal that markets products made by women and supports the economic and social empowerment of Nepalese women. They are an accredited member recognised by WFTO, the cooperative is made up of 280 members who work day after day to give women back the opportunity to choose their future. Our natural scarves, before they are dyed with natural dyes, are made in a handloom by women supported by WEAN.

    FAQs

    Are Bahini scarves soft?

All our scarves are made from bamboo linen, a durable, hard-wearing fabric that is extremely soft and comfortable to wear. As we don't use any chemicals or softeners our scarves are also hypoallergenic, perfect for sensitive skin. Our scarves dyed with natural dye can first be a little stiff due to the starch in some of the plant dyes. But once you start wearing your scarf, it will get softer and become the softest item you own.

    Why unisex?

Everyone looks good in a scarf. Our designs and styles are made to fit everyone.

    Summer or Winter scarf?

One of the great advantages of natural bamboo linen is that it is thermo-regulating, meaning that it maintains your body temperature perfectly to ensure that you are neither too hot nor too cold! Our scarves can be worn all year round.
